Description
GAUL - CELTIC Tolosates. Drachma, ‘plume’ series [or with the so-called ‘Negroid’ head] ND (2nd–1st centuries BC). Obverse. Head facing left, without an ear, the skull smooth and oversized, surmounted by locks of hair curling backwards. Reverse: A ball-headed cross forming four quarters, each decorated with a globule beneath a crescent in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters, and a small ring in the 4th quarter. Savès 79 v. – LT. Ch. Robert (F) – Hiriart 5.05; Silver – 3.36 g – 14.5 mm – 6 h Acquired from Poinsignon in 1997. On a quadrangular blank cut with shears. Well centred on both the obverse and reverse.
