GAUL - CELTIC Allobroges. Drachma featuring a ibex, Class I with long horns, ND (late 2nd – first quarter of the 1st century BC). Obverse: Head of Apollo wearing a laurel wreath, facing right. Reverse: Ibex facing right, with long horns drawn back; between its legs, a four-spoked wheel with a beaded rim. DT.3102-3103 - LT.2879; Silver – 2.44 g – 15 mm – 6 h Acquired from the BPN [Banque Populaire du Nord] in 1986. Some metal is missing beneath the ear on the obverse. The portrait is centred on the obverse, as is the reverse, which features the full ibex with a sort of branch in front of it. Beautiful dark patina. Superb.
