GAUL - CELTIC Aedui. Denier or quinarius VIIPOTAL with a lion, ND (c. 60–50 BC). Obverse: Draped female bust wearing a diadem, facing left. Reverse: VIIPOTAL. Lion advancing to the left on a line representing the ground. DT.3216 - LT.4495; Silver – 1.83 g – 14.5 mm – 2 h Acquired from Chauchoy in 1982. A rare type featuring a lion on the reverse. The metal is slightly crystallised. With a grey patina. Very good condition. For Viipotal or Vepotalos, chieftain of the Pictones or, more likely, the Aedui – the latter being the currently accepted attribution following the discovery of the Vernon hoard
