GAUL - CELTIC
Aedui. Quinaris bearing the inscription LITAVICOS, Class I ND (after 52 BC).
Obverse: Bust of Diana wearing a diadem, facing right, her hair gathered in a saccos; behind her, the remains of a quiver; in front, a shaft ending in three small rings.
Reverse: LITΛ [VICOS]. A Gallic horseman facing right, brandishing a wild boar standard in his right hand.

Acquired from Corinne, RI NUM [Richelieu Numismatique] in 1987. This is the specimen illustrated in the *Nouvel Atlas* no. 3231.
On an oblong flan, a remarkable specimen of this type, with the bust and its attributes finely detailed on the obverse and the perfect ‘LITA’ legend on the reverse. The surfaces are slightly crystallised, with a grey patina displaying bluish highlights. Superb.
