GAUL - CELTIC Aedui / Segusiavi. Quinar or denarius with the inscription SEGVSIAVS / ARVS ND (after 47 BC). Obverse: SEGVSIA in front of the face and [V]S behind the nape of the neck. Bust facing right wearing a crested helmet, with a spear behind the shoulder. Reverse: ARVS. Hercules standing on the right, naked, leaning on his right leg with his left leg drawn back; he holds a club in his right hand; the lion’s carcass on his left arm, which rests on the shoulder of a figure facing forwards, wearing a large cloak, standing on a plinth. DT.3273-3274 - LT.4622; Silver - 1.71 g - 16 mm - 9 o’clock Acquired from Albuquerque in 1988. A rare and interesting type, with a reverse inspired by the denarius of C. Antius C.f. Restio (RRC.455/2a). The blank is oblong, with a slightly off-centre strike. Original patina. Very Good to Very Good-Plus. According to *Le Nouvel Atlas*: “Due to the ethnic designation SEGVSIAVS, this series has been attributed to the Segusiavi, a client people of the Aedui (BG, VII, 75). However, the finds, which are scattered, are located in the Doubs, Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire departments, rather than to the east of Lyon”
