Description
GAUL - CELTIC Lingones. KALETEDOY quinarius and buckle with prong, Class III ND (late 2nd century BC). Obverse: Helmeted head facing left; the neck is adorned with a pearl necklace. Reverse: Girdled horse facing left, surrounded by the stylised legend ‘KALETEDOY’ and, below, a sort of beaded torque or beaded buckle with a bar. DT.3197 v.; Silver – 1.92 g – 14 mm – 1 h Acquired from SW [Stéphane Werochowski] in 2004. The reverse shows an element resembling a torque (cf. DT.3191) but which is more likely a buckle with a prong (also serving as a large, horizontal ‘D’!). The reverse is complete with remnants of the inscription KA/ - 0 - Y. Superb.
