GAUL - CELTIC Suessioni. Stater, Villeneuve-Saint-Germain type, Class II, with the ‘ND’ mark (1st century BC). Obverse. Stylised head facing right, comprising a laurel wreath, locks of hair drawn back, and an oversized eye; the neck is adorned with a design reminiscent of a garment. Reverse: A horse facing left, surmounted by the remnant of a wing above the croup, with a ‘V’ within a beaded heart; a small ring below, and a beaded motif in front of the head. A rare type and a specimen of very fine quality, with the details on the obverse clearly defined, as is the remainder of Pegasus’s wing on the reverse. With a grey patina. Very Fine to Superb.
