GAUL - CELTIC
Suessiones / Belgium. Quarter-stater known as the ‘small horned serpent’, variety 2 with ‘S’ on the reverse (65–35 BC).
Obverse. Highly stylised laureate head facing right, the hair parted by a sort of anchor, with wavy locks sweeping back above the laurel wreath; the eyes are hollowed-out crescents with bezants as pupils.
Reverse: Horse facing right; to the right, a centred ring connected to the chest; beneath the horse, an ‘S’-shaped motif; above, a small annelid snake with two horns.

On a fairly wide, slightly concave flan. The strike is slightly off-centre. Light golden patina. Very Good to Superb.
