GAUL - CELTIC
Bellovaci. Quarter-stater in gold, bearing a star and a horse on the right; variety with a single star, ND (50–30 BC).
Obverse. Profile features on the right, with the nose occupying one-third of the field: the eye is an oval centred on a small sphere; beneath the nose, the mouth is suggested by a sort of very elongated ‘S’; on the left, three oblique rows evoke a laurel wreath.
Reverse: A horse facing right; above it, a radiant star.

With a single star on the reverse! Pale gold blank, with a slight patina. Very Fine to Superb.
Missing from the *Nouvel Atlas* with a single star, but corresponds to no. 166 in Simone Scheers’ *Traité*, who noted that ‘on some quarters of Class II (with the horse on the right), the star below the horse is missing or has been replaced by an S’
