Description
GAUL - CELTIC Bellovaci. Silver quarter-stater bearing a star and a horse facing right, ND (50–30 BC). Obverse. A stylised profile to the right, with a small ring to the left of the almond-shaped eye and a star and an ‘esse’ beneath the nose. Below, two oblique rows on either side of a straight line evoke a laurel wreath. Reverse: A leaping horse facing right, surmounted by a radiant star above the hindquarters. DT.279 v. or 281 v. – LT.7245 v. – Scheers 168; Silver – 1.46 g - 13 mm - 5 h Acquired from Hugo [Taittinger] in 2017. Very well centred on the obverse with the profile details clearly defined. The reverse is only slightly off-centre. Attractive grey patina. Superb.
