GAUL - CELTIC
Ambiens. Quarter of a lamellar gold stater, derived from the double-sided ND stater (1st century BC).
Obverse. Stylised head facing right, comprising a laurel wreath, curly locks of hair drawn back, an anchor-shaped eye and a large ‘S’-shaped motif for the nose and forehead.
Reverse: A horse facing right with a beaded mane. A beaded chevron above the back. Two small waves and a star in front of the horse’s neck. Beneath the horse, a beaded circle, triangles and bezants.

On a wide, thin, slightly concave flan. Of remarkable quality, with a golden patina. Superb.
