GAUL - CELTIC Ambiens. Lamellar denarius from the ‘Ambiani common fund’, Class II with a wild boar on the reverse (1st century BC). Obverse. Highly stylised profile of Pallas facing right, wearing a shattered helmet, the crest depicted as two S-shapes. Reverse: A free-running horse galloping to the right, surmounted by an 8 and a snake (?), a ball-headed cross flanked by two small rings in front; a small boar emblem to the right beneath the belly. DT.346 v. - LT.-; Silver – 0.65 g – 13 mm – 9 h These types are sometimes attributed to the Aulerci Eburovici. Slightly scyphate. Remarkable geometric composition on the obverse. The reverse is also complete. Light grey patina. Superb.
