GAUL - CELTIC Ambiens. Denarius ‘Ambiani communal fund’, Class I, bareheaded and androcephalic ND (1st century BC). Obverse. Profile to the left, with luxuriant hair, the locks plaited and ending in hooks; in front of the profile, a double-headed serpent in an ‘S’ shape. Reverse: An androcephalic horse leaping to the left, with a shaggy mane and a centred ring adorning its shoulder. Below and in front, a centred ring; above the hindquarters, a sort of bird with outstretched wings. DT.355 - LT.-; Silver - 1.32 g - 14 mm - 12 h Acquired from Stéph. Wero [Stéphane Werochowski] in 2018. A very rare type from the Ambiani coinage, and of exceptional quality! Very well centred and struck, with a light grey patina. Superb in proof condition.
