GAUL - CELTIC Ambiens. A scyphate quinarius depicting horses and spears facing each other, undated (1st century BC). Obverse. Two facing horses (or horned animals), a pointed ring between them, a bezant behind them; below, two spears with detailed tips, facing each other, surrounded by rings. Reverse. A free-standing horse on the left, between three pointed rings. DT.436 v. (horse facing right) or 438 v. – LT.–; Silver – 0.59 g – 12.5 mm – 5 h The strike is vigorous with a fully concave obverse! The reverse, however, is poorly struck with a cloverleaf pattern. Very attractive grey patina. A very rare scyphate denarius preserved in its entirety! Superb / Very Good.
