GAUL - CELTIC Ambiens. Denarius, imitation of the Arverni type, undated (60–50 BC). Obverse: Stylised head facing left, with wavy hair and a pearl necklace around the neck; an ‘S’ in front of the mouth. Reverse: A free-running horse leaping to the left, with a ball-tipped mane; a sort of ‘S’ above (lituus?) and a spikelet-shaped motif beneath the belly, with a small ball-tipped cross. DT.501 – BSFN February 1985; Silver – 1.16 g – 13 mm – 12 h Of remarkable quality for this type, with a centred and complete strike, and a deep, glossy black patina. Superb.
