Description
GAUL - CELTIC Spain (Hispania) – Empuries (Ampurias or Emporiæ). Drachma featuring a Pegasus with the head of a Cabir, dated ND (c. 220 BC), Emporiæ (Empuries). Obverse: Bust of Arethusa facing right, wearing a diadem, with flowing hair, surrounded by eses reminiscent of dolphins. Reverse: EMΠOPITΩ[N]. Pegasus with a stylised head facing right. Dicomon EMP-22 – CNH 34–37; Silver – 4.27 g – 17.5 mm – 12 h Acquired from Vecchi in 1997. On an oblong blank, with minor metal defects. The relief is high, with a fine grey patina. TTB to Superb.
