ROMAN REPUBLIC Anonymous. ND didrachm (225–212 BC), Rome. Obverse. Beardless, Janus-like heads of the laurelled Dioscuri (Castor and Pollux). Reverse. ROMA. Jupiter in a quadriga galloping to the right, driven by Victory holding the reins, brandishing a thunderbolt in his right hand and holding a long sceptre in his left. RRC.28/3 - Syd.64; Silver – 6.22 g – 23.5 mm – 7 h Acquired from Baron in 1996. Wide flan; the strike is centred on the obverse and slightly off-centre on the reverse. Slight crack in the flan at 1 o’clock. Some corrosion on the surface of the fields, which has been scraped away. Superb.
