ROMAN REPUBLIC Marcus Aburius Geminus. Denarius ND (132 BC), Rome. Obverse: GEM. Helmeted head of Rome facing right; in front, XVI. Reverse: M. ABVRI / ROMA. Sol brandishing a whip in a quadriga facing right. RRC.250/1; Silver – 3.96 g – 18.5 mm – 6 h Close to mint condition, with a delicate patina. Superb, near-mint. Caius and Marcus Aburius are thought to be the sons of Marcus Aburius, tribune of the plebs in 185 BC. The denarii of Caius Aburius are dated to 134 BC and those of Marcus Aburius to 132 BC. For this reason, the two brothers are thought to have been given the title ‘Geminus’ (Twins), which recalls Remus and Romulus, the founders of Rome, sometimes depicted as the Dioscuri, Castor and Pollux
