Description
ROMAN REPUBLIC Julius Caesar (60–44 BC). Denarius ND (46–45 BC), Spain. Obverse: Head of Venus wearing a diadem facing right, with a small Cupid on her right shoulder. Reverse: CAESAR. A trophy consisting of Gallic weapons, with a carnyx on either side, flanked by two captives; the man on the right with his hands bound behind his back and the woman on the left, seated facing left, in a sorrowful pose. RRC.468/1 – RCV.1404; Silver – 4.09 g – 18 mm – 7 h Acquired from J.-L. Cougnard in 1991. The reverse is slightly concave. Off-centre strike on the obverse. With a grey patina. Almost Superb.
