ROMAN REPUBLIC M. Junius Brutus and Pedanius Costa. Denarius ND (42 BC), itinerant mint in Asia Minor. Obv. LEG - COSTA. Laureate head of Apollo facing right. Rev. IMP - BRVTVS. Military trophy with a shield and two spears. RRC.506/2; Silver – 3.62 g – 17.5 mm – 12 h Acquired from J.-L. Cougnard in 2009. Fairly well centred. Wear is light and even. The fields are slightly brushed, beneath a grey patina. TTB. For Pedanius Costa, Brutus’s legate and ‘paymaster’ overseeing the travelling mint that followed the troops in Asia Minor and Macedonia, responsible for converting war booty into currency to pay the 17 legions under Brutus’s command
