Augustus (27 BC – 14 AD). As with Agrippa (group 4) ND (10–14), Nîmes.
Obverse: IMP – DIVI· F / P – P. Laureate busts of Augustus and Agrippa, back-to-back.
Rev. COL – NEM. A palm tree to which a crocodile is chained; two palm fronds below and a wreath above with tongues.
RPC.525 – RIC.159–161; Bronze – 12.51 g – 27 mm – 12 h
The strike is slightly off-centre. A fine scratch on Augustus’s cheek. Attractive dark, glossy patina. With fine details of the crocodile’s skin on the reverse! Superb.
