Hadrian (117–138). Cistophorus ND, Hierapolis.
Obverse: HADRIANVS – AVGVSTVS P P. Draped bust facing right, bareheaded, seen in three-quarter profile from behind.
Reverse: COS III in the exergue. A laureate horseman (Phrygian cap) on a horse walking to the right, holding a double-headed axe on his left shoulder with his left hand and the reins with his right hand.

Acquired from Woods in 2008 and previously sold at Classical Numismatic Group 70, 21 September 2005, lot 1007. This is the specimen illustrated in *Roman Provincial Coinage III*, no. 1396.
Minted in Phrygia, at Hierapolis: this type first appeared in 2005! Well-centred strike with a beautifully styled bust. Even wear across the reliefs. With a grey patina showing golden highlights. TTB.
