Locris, Oponte. Stater ND (360–350 BC), Oponte.
Obverse: Head of Demeter facing left, wearing earrings and a pearl necklace.
Rev. ΟΠΟΝ-ΤΙΩΝ. Ajax the Lesser, advancing to the right in a fighting stance, naked except for his helmet, holding a shield and a sword; the inside of the shield is decorated with a coiled snake; an arrowhead to the left between his legs.

On a slightly oblong die, with a vigorous strike, a concave die and high relief. Slight circulation wear and a lovely grey patina with bluish highlights. Superb.
