ANCIENT GREECE - GREEK Boeotia, Thebes. Stater in the name of the magistrate [K]ABI ND (368–364 BC), Thebes. Obverse: Boeotian shield. Rev. A kantharos flanked by [K]A - BI. HGC 4, 1332 – BCD Boeotia 539 – Hepworth 61; Silver – 12.12 g – 20.5 mm – 9 h With an old collector’s label indicating a purchase from Platt in 1960 (85 F). NGC Ch VF 4/5 3/5 (6645986-040). Slightly oblong die. Slight traces of wear and a pleasant grey patina with bluish highlights. Superb. The stater coins of the 4th-century Boeotian Confederacy were struck to the Aegina standard. The series began in the early years of the 4th century and ended at the Battle of Chaeronea in 338 BC. They bear the Boeotian shield on the obverse and an amphora on the reverse, with the names of magistrates or other additional symbols around the amphora. R.
