Mysia, Cyzicus. Hecté (1/6 of a stater) ND (500–450 BC), Cyzicus.
Obverse. Head of Attis facing right, wearing a Phrygian cap. Below, a tuna facing right.
Reverse. Quadripartite recessed square.

NGC MS* 5/5 5/5 Fine style (3928166-007).
High relief and close to its original mint condition, with a highly detailed bust on the obverse. The patina is golden. Superb in Proof condition.
On the obverse, the portrait is probably that of Attis, the husband of the Phrygian goddess Cybele. Cybele, an androgynous figure, was castrated by the gods. From her limbs sprang an almond tree, from which Attis was born. Attis rarely appears in Greek art, but his status rose when the Romans adopted the cult of Cybele
