Ptolemaic Kingdom, Ptolemy I (305–285 BC). 25-obol tetradrachm ND (after 294 BC), Alexandria.
Obverse: Bust of Ptolemy I wearing a diadem, facing right.
Reverse: ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ - ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ. Eagle facing left, perched on a thunderbolt; monogram in the field on the left.
CPE.141 or 142 – Sv.231 or 265; Silver – 14.73 g – 28.5 mm – 12 h
NGC Ch XF 4/5 3/5 die shift (2183766-006).
Well centred, with a bust in high relief on the obverse. The strike on the reverse is slightly clovered and double-struck. A heavyweight tetradrachm, from the first issue. Old patina with slight golden highlights. Superb.
