Ptolemaic Kingdom, Ptolemy VI (180–145 BC). ND tetradrachm (c. 175–165 BC), Alexandria.
Obverse. Head of Ptolemy I wearing a diadem, facing right, with the aegis.
Reverse. ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ - ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ. Eagle facing left on a thunderbolt, with feather-covered talons.
CPE.1117 - Svoronos 1489; Silver - 13.03 g - 26.5 mm - 11 h
NGC AU 5/5 2/5 scratches (Ptolemy V) (2167919-034).
For Ptolemy VI, with the eagle’s talons covered in feathers (Lorber p.55). Slightly scuffed on the cheek on the obverse and scratched in the field on the reverse. Attractive patina with golden highlights. Superb.
