Reverse: ΜΣΣΑ. Lion facing right. Pautasso, see 7–26; Silver – 3.74 g – 16 mm – 10 h From a Numismatic Fine Arts (Edward Gans) sale in 1963–1964, subsequently in the Baldwin Maull collection; CNG sale 112, 11 September 2019, lot 4. Heavy in weight, with an erroneous legend (ΜΣΣΑ) and a distinctive style, this drachma appears to be a Piedmontese imitation: it should be noted, however, that the lion on the reverse is particularly well executed. Some marks on the edge, including a strike mark. With a lovely patina.
