GAUL - CELTIC Veneti. Stater featuring a small, bareheaded female head (2nd century BC). Obverse: Right-facing profile of a small, bare head with round, curly hair, surrounded by beaded cords emerging from the nape of the neck and the forehead and connected to four small curly heads. A sort of spear behind the nape of the neck, with the base of the neck resting on a sort of fluted entablature featuring two large brackets pointing downwards. Reverse: An androcephalic horse on the right, surmounted by a highly stylised charioteer with the body of an insect and arms formed of dots. Below, a reclining figure on the right, with outstretched wings. DT.2109 - LT.7879; Gold – 7.61 g – 19 mm – 11 h On a small blank, of good weight and with a centred strike. The obverse is very complete in all its details, including the cordons, heads and the console beneath the bust. The reverse is of a coarser style and shows traces of an old varnish on the golden-brown highlights. Almost Superb.
