GAUL - CELTIC Aulerci Eburovices. Quarter-stater depicting a wolf beneath a horse and a kneeling charioteer, ND (c. 2nd–1st century BC). Obverse. Apollonian profile wearing a laurel wreath, facing right, with luxuriant hair in S-shaped locks beneath the wreath and flamed above; a floral ornament beneath the neck. Reverse: Horse facing right, with a beaded mane, surmounted by a kneeling charioteer with a long wavy cord in front of the horse; beneath the horse, a small ornament consisting of a vertical line emerging from a circle and flanked by two dots; below, a wolf on the right biting the horse’s right foreleg. DT.2388 - LT.7173; Gold – 1.9 g – 12 mm – 10 h Very fine style and well centred. Slightly worn on the obverse with slight flattening on the high reliefs and a tiny scratch on the neck. The reverse is well-preserved and complete, with the entire wavy line in front of the horse intact. Superb.
