Description
GAUL - CELTIC
Uncertain; Tolosates / Petrocores / Nitiobroges. A flamboyant-style drachma, featuring a lock of hair in front of the ear (ND) (mid-3rd – first half of the 2nd century BC).
Obverse. Head facing right, eye in profile, flamboyant hair composed of interlaced S-shapes, a small curl in front of the ear.
Reverse: A cross flanked by a globule within a beaded circle at the 1 and 4 o’clock positions, [a triskelion at the 2 o’clock position], and an axe to the left at the 4 o’clock position.
Savès 167 – Hiriart 9.22, nos. 669–670; Silver – 3.38 g – 15 mm – 10 h
On a small quadrangular flan, with a small protrusion. Beautifully styled with a well-detailed face. Very Fine to Superb.
