Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Louis-Rodolphe (1714–1735). Ducat, hybrid strike with two reverses dated 1733/1733, Braunschweig.
Obv. EX ADVERSO DECUS [Overcoming adversity brings honour in the face of adversity]. The Wild Man facing forward, holding a tree; in the exergue: (date).
Rev. DANT ADVERSA DECVS [Overcoming adversity brings recognition]. A radiant eight-pointed star within a wreath of clouds; in the exergue: (date).

Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! From a J. Schulman auction, Amsterdam, 27 February 1939, lot 192 (“extremely rare”).
NGC MS 63 (2175175-010).
Minor marks on the scrolls and in the fields. With a slight golden patina over the original lustre. Very rare. Superb in mint condition.
This reverse appears to be derived from a token by Henri de La Tour d’Auvergne dated 1595 (cf. Florange or De Bie) or from Angers in 1638. Note the spelling ‘DECUS’ on the obverse (U) and ‘DECVS’ on the reverse (V)
