NGC PF 63 (8769660-019). On a burnished blank (PROOF). With a smooth edge and in coin strike: Second Empire strike on a slightly concave blank. Superb in proof condition. The examples with a smooth edge, mistakenly regarded as trial strikes, were in fact struck in Paris during the Second Empire at the request of Prince Napoleon, who used them as gaming tokens [RN 1911, PVSFN, LXXXIV–LXXXV]
