ARAUCANIA-PATAGONIA - ARAUCANIA Orélie-Antoine I (1860–1878). One-peso piéfort, burnished blank (PROOF) 1874. Obverse: ORLLIE-ANTOINE I, KING OF ARAUCANIA AND PATAGONIA. A crowned shield bearing the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Araucania (Liberty, Law, Agriculture and Industry); surrounded by a circle of 27 small stars. Rev. NEW FRANCE. On a wreath formed of two reeds: UN / PESO / (date) and above, eleven small stars. Lec.- (cf. 14, bronze) - KM.- (cf. X#12, bronze); Bronze – 41 mm – 12 h Top Pop: this is the finest graded specimen! Another identical piéfort is listed in the iNumis auction, Auction by Bids, 6–7 November 2008, lot 1264. NGC PF 64 BN (4732483-008). On a burnished (PROOF) blank, in a piedfort format with a smooth edge. Not listed in bronze, but several examples have been reported. With an iridescent patina.
