BULGARIA Ferdinand I (1887–1918). 100 leva, commemorating independence, modern reissue, proof-finished (PROOF) 1912, Sofia. Obverse: ФЕРДИНАНДЪ I - ЦАРЬ НА БЪЛГАРИТѢ. Bust facing left, signed R. MARSCHALL. Reverse: ЦАРСТВО - БЪЛГАРИЯ / 22. SEPT. 1908. Between two branches, a crowned shield flanked by 100 - ЛЕВА; below (date). KM.34 – Fr.cf. 5; Gold – 35 mm – 6 h This is the second-highest grade (43)! PCGS PR68CAM (44339775). Brunish proof flan with cameo effect. Mint state. In 1908, Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince of Bulgaria since 1887, exploited the existing tensions between the great powers to declare, in Veliko Tarnovo, the independence of Bulgaria and the creation of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, assuming the title of Tsar himself as Ferdinand I. The date of independence is recorded as 22 September 1908 according to the Julian calendar (5 October 1908 according to the Orthodox calendar)
