EGYPT Fouad I (1917–1936). Medal, International Exhibition of Tourist Propaganda Posters, established in 1933 by His Majesty Fouad I, by S. E. Vernier and P.-M. Dammann, 1933, Paris. Obverse: Caption in Arabic script. Bust facing right in uniform, signed S. E. VERNIER 1924. Reverse: Landscape depicting the Ptolemaic Gate of Karnak, a boat on the Nile and a two-horse chariot driven by the pharaoh. In the exergue: INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF TOURIST PROPAGANDA POSTERS / CREATED IN 1933 BY / HIS MAJESTY FUAD I, KING OF EGYPT. Silver – 169.35 g – 72 mm – 12 h Hallmarks (horn) 2 SILVER. With a grey, slightly matt patina. Very rare. Superb, mint condition. This extremely rare medal (see S. Album 24, 14 January 2016, no. 2226 – $15,000 + fees) also exists with a reverse design where the Karnak Gate is replaced by the five-column façade of the Temple of Luxor (iNumis auction, 5 May 2015, lot 210 – €14,000 + fees)
