Our specimen, which is clearly legible, allows for a more precise reading of the coin’s inscription: Deligetaselo? Struck in electrum or pale gold. Very rare. Superb.
With the inscription DOΛSEIIΛSELO (DOMNEGVSELO) as read by Belfort, reinterpreted as D//ΛIREIIVSEΛ by Prou, or alternatively as DEAIRENASEA on a specimen discovered in Essex in 2007 (EMC 2007.0069). Located 35 km north of Paris, Plailly is a village in the Valois region, which was established a very long time ago at the foot of Montmélian Hill. The inhabitants of this commune are known as the Plelléens, named after the Gallo-Roman figure Plellius, who is said to have once owned an estate in Plailly. The village’s antiquity is supported by the existence of a coin-mint from the Merovingian period
