FRANCE / CAROLINGIANS - FRANCE / CAROLINGIAN Charles the Bald, or in the name of Emperor Charles (late 9th – early 10th century). ND obol, Toulouse. Obverse: + CRALS IHE. Cross. Reverse (at 2 o’clock): + TOROSA. Carolingian monogram in the form CRLS. P.- - MG.- (cf. 1098) - MEC.I.- ; Silver – 0.63 g – 14 mm – 11 h From the B. Chwartz collection (no. 2380), OGN auction, 18 June 2009, lot no. 166 “unpublished”. With the ‘S’ letters lying flat and inverted; the overall lettering is rather degenerate. Well centred. Not previously recorded with this late design bearing the name of Emperor Charles. Pleasant collector’s patina. Superb.
