Charles VI (1380–1422). Golden Lamb of the Dauphiné, 1st issue, undated (1417), Romans.
Obverse: + AGN: DEI: QVI: TOLL: PECAT: MVDI: MISE: NOB. Paschal lamb on the left, standing upright on all four legs, head turned to the right, in front of a trefoil cross with a banner which cuts across the exergue legend, within a beaded polylobed frame interrupted at the bottom; in the exergue: KRL – REX.
Reverse. + XPC· VINCIT· XPC· REGNAT· XPC· INPERAT. A trefoil cross with leaves, with a rose at its centre, flanked by four lilies, all within an angled quadrilobe flanked by eight small lilies.

A rare Dauphiné issue featuring ‘KRL REX’ on the obverse and the lamb on all fours. Second ring for Romans. Made from a reduced but complete blank, and of correct weight. Minimal graffiti on the obverse. Golden patina. Superb.
