Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Charles VI (1380–1422). Blanc dit Guénar, 6th issue, ND (1417), Saint-Quentin. Obverse (cross with bar): KAROLVS: FRANCORV: REX. Shield of France, with a solid dot between the two upper lilies. Reverse (cross with bar): SIT: NOME: DNI: BENEDICTV. Cross flanked by two small crowns and two fleurs-de-lis; solid dot beneath the lower arm. Dy.377E – Giard 13d; Billon – 3.03 g – 26.5 mm – 7 h With a round label inscribed in pen from the P. Prieur collection and previously part of the Berny-Rivière Treasury; specimen cited by Giard and reproduced in Plate I, no. 14. The ring mark is 16th on the obverse and 17th on the reverse! The mint is certainly Saint-Quentin, given the trident-shaped ‘T’ marks used there. An extremely rare issue featuring initials in the form of cross-shaped bars. Beautiful antique patina. Very Fine to Superb.
