Louis XII (1498–1514). A gold shield with a porcupine ND (1513–1515), Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
Obverse: + LVDOVICVS: DEI: GRA: FRANCORVM: REX (variant). Crowned Shield of France, supported by two porcupines.
Rev. + XPS: VINCIT: XPS: REGNAT: XPS: IMPERAT. An achée cross, flanked by two uncial L’s and two porcupines.

PCGS Genuine Bent-AU Detail (56278503).
With a 17th-century mark which would make it a 20th if ‘GRA[CIA]’ were complete, and the letter ‘C’ of the master Laurent de Chenevelles. The blank is slightly veiled, with traces of a crease. Retains its original lustre beneath a light patina. Superb.
