Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Charles IX (1560–1574). Trial coin of the Tournai denier, Our Lady (before 1569), Lyon. Obv. + CAROLVS. VIIII. Rev. G. FRAN REX. Two lilies in a trefoil flanked by three small rings. Rev. + SIT. NOMEN. DNI. BENEDIC (variant) (clover). Cross within a ringed quatrefoil, flanked by four small clovers. LP.939; Silver – 1.11 g – 19 mm – 6 h Top Pop: this is the only graded specimen! From the H. M[eyer] collection, Rollin and Feuardent (auctioneers), Paris, 26 May to 14 June 1902, no. 985 and pl. X. NGC MS 62 (6631355-081 (1483-98, sic!)). No date or mint mark, but with a 12th-point on the reverse and a clover for Lyon. Different ‘M’ from Claude Monnier (1556–1569).
