FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Henry III (1574–1589). Gold shield with sun, 3rd type, 1577, H, La Rochelle. Obv. (at 6 o’clock) HENRICVS. III. D. G – FRAN. ET. POL. REX. The Shield of France crowned beneath a sun, with the mint mark below. Reverse: + CHRISTVS. REGNAT. VINCIT. ET. INPERAT. (date). A ringed cross with fleur-de-lis, featuring a quatrefoil in the centre, with a sun at its heart. Dy.1121A – G.504 (R4) – Sb.4932 (4 ex.) – Fr.386; Gold – 3.38 g – 26 mm – 12 h Top Pop: this is the finest graded specimen! NGC MS 62 (8769661-018). With the sun at the centre of the cross, this example differs from that of the master Nicolas Rinette! Minimal circulation wear and the fields have been barely cleaned. Superb.
