Henry III (1574–1589). Quadruple piéfort of the demi-écu d’or with sun, 4th type (front-facing cross), 1576, A, Paris.
Obverse (at 6 o’clock) HENRICVS. III. D. G. FRAN. ET. POL. REX. (date). Ringed cross with fleur-de-lis, with a quatrefoil in the centre; (mint mark) in the exergue.
Rev. (at 12 o’clock) CHRISTVS. REGNAT. VINCIT. ET. IMP. Shield of France crowned beneath a sun.

With a fluted edge. The inscription is on the cross side (the standard type does not exist for this variant, see G.501)! Missing from reference works! A minor scratch on the rim at two o’clock on the obverse and a tiny scratch in the field. Slight signs of handling and scuffing in the fields. Extremely rare. Superb.
