Obv. + HENRICVS. III. D. G. FRANC. ET. POL. REX (variant) (date). Fleur-de-lis cross with a cruciform finial in the centre.
Rev. + SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM. Crowned coat of arms of France flanked by V – III; below (mint mark).

Only 1,940 examples were struck at Troyes in 1589, with a face value in quarters of an écu; this figure also includes eighths of an écu, as evidenced by this previously unpublished example. The blank is warped and scratched, with a black patina. Unpublished. Very fine.
