Henry IV (1589–1610). Half-franc, 1593, AM, Melun.
Obverse (at 6 o’clock) HENRICVS. IIII. D. G. FR. ET. NAVA. REX. Laureate, draped and armoured bust of the King facing right; (variant) below and (mint mark) in the exergue.
Rev. + SIT. NOMEN. DNI. BENEDICTVM. (date). A fleur-de-lis cross, with a reclining ‘H’ in the centre.

This is the specimen illustrated in the CGB catalogue, France 22 (bry_483568), subsequently part of the Bastien Mikolajczak collection.
With a reclining ‘H’ on the reverse. A few minting imperfections but of excellent quality for this mint, with a detailed and crisp bust. Beautiful antique patina. Rare. Superb.
The Melun mint was opened on 19 August 1592 by supporters of Henry IV, as the Paris mint was in the hands of the League. This particular type of demi-franc, specific to this mint, was theoretically struck in 1593 and 1594 according to archival sources; however, no examples from 1594, in demi-franc or quarter-franc denominations, have been found.
