Henry IV (1589–1610). Quarter-écu, 3rd type, with a cross with fleur-de-lis arms, viewed from the front, 1590, I, Limoges.
Obv. (at 12 o’clock) HENRICVS. IIII. D. G. FRAN. ET. NAVA. R. (date). Fleur-de-lis cross, with a rose in the centre.
Rev. (at 7 o’clock) SIT. NOMEN. DNI. BNEDICTVM ·(mint)· + (various). Crowned Shield of France, flanked by II - II.

Distinguished by a distinctive small cross in the exergue of the reverse; the mint mark appears at the end of the legend and is different at the beginning. With a deep grey patina. Very fine.
A unique specimen published in 2020 and listed in Gadoury 2022! This specimen demonstrates that the Limoges mint was striking coins in the name of Henry IV from the end of 1590, having previously struck quarter-écus featuring a head-on shield design in the name of Henry III (G.495)
