Henry IV (1589–1610). Quarter-shield, 3rd type, with a cross with fleur-de-lis arms facing forwards, 1594, B, Rouen.
Obverse (at 12 o’clock) + HENRIC. IIII. D. G. FRAN. ET. NAV. REX. (variant) (date). Fleur-de-lis cross, with a rose in the centre.
Reverse (at 6 o’clock) SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM. Crowned coat of arms of France, flanked by II – II; below (mint mark).

From an Albuquerque auction by tender on 26 September 1999, lot no. 66, then from the Claude Boissard collection, CGB, Monnaies XII, 2001, no. 656, then the Bastien Mikolajczak collection.
On a fairly large blank, with even wear and an antique patina with golden highlights. Rare. TTB.
The Rouen mint, which struck coins in the name of Charles X from 1590 to 1594, came under the authority of Henry IV in 1594 and began producing quarter-écus from 1594 (our specimen)
