Henry IV (1589–1610). Quarter shield, shield facing forwards, 4th type, with fleur-de-lis 1603, R, Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
Obv. (at 6 o’clock) HENRICVS. IIII. D. G. FRANC. ET. NAVA. REX. Crowned shield of France, flanked by II – II; below (mint mark).
Rev. + SIT. NOMEN. DOMINI. BENEDICTVM. (variant) (date). Fleur-de-lis cross, with a rose at the centre, flanked by a fleur-de-lis at the 1 o’clock position.

On an oblong blank, with a reeded edge. The strike is barely clovered on the obverse. This specimen has seen very little circulation, with a grey patina displaying magnificent bluish highlights. Superb.
