FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XIII (1610–1643). Double gold louis with short tuft, 1640, A, Paris. Obv. LVD. XIII. D. G. – FR. ET. NAV. REX. Laurel-wreathed head of the King facing right, (date) below. Rev. .CHRS. - .REGN. - .VINC. - .IMP. A cross formed of eight L’s, each arm crowned, with the mint mark in the centre, flanked by four lilies radiating from the centre. Dy.1297 - G.59 - Fr.409; Gold - 1 g - 29 mm - 6 h PCGS AU55 (60895144). The crown has no berries and ends in four leaves. A fine strike, neat and even. Circulation wear is minimal, with only slight flattening of the reliefs. A lovely golden patina covers both sides. Superb.
